HarvEast Holding Launches Harvest Campaign

HarvEast Holding began harvesting of winter crops. The first harvest will be gathered in Crimean farms of the Holding, where last year about 9 thousand ha of the cultivated land were sown with winter crops, 5 thousand ha of them were intended for wheat and 3.8 thousand ha – for barley. Moreover, in spring 1.7 thousand ha were sown with sunflower and 3.8 thousand ha – with feed crops in Crimean farms.
In total, last autumn and this spring the Holding has sown 195 thousand ha of the cultivated land, including 71 thousand ha of wheat, 21 thousand ha of barley, 48 thousand ha of industrial crops and 41 thousand of feed crops.
At the same time, fertilizers investments within the framework of the spring sowing campaign comprised over UAH 100 million, exceeding the total quantity for the last two years.
“This is the first Holding harvest. After completion of the harvesting campaign, we will analyze thoroughly the crop yield in every region in order to develop an efficient crop rotation scheme and to define the appropriate quantity and type of fertilizers for each particular region,” says Dmitriy Skornyakov, acting CEO.
Last year, the average wheat yield in agricultural assets of Ilyich Steel Plant, involved for HarvEast foundation, achieved 29.3 cwt /ha.

The Holding was founded on 10 March 2011, on the basis of agricultural assets of Ilyich Steel Plant. Assets transferring will be completed in autumn 2011. Total cultivated lands will be about 220 thousand ha, and cattle will make over 30 thousand heads. The first public presentation of the Holding strategy is planned for the middle of 2012.
